• SRM PUBLIC SCHOOL TIES UP WITH SPACE KIDZ INDIA STUDENTS TO DESIGN, DEVELOP SATELLITE TO BE SENT INTO ORBIT THROUGH ISRO LAUNCH VEHICLE.
SRM Public School, Guduvanchery, has tied up with Space Kidz India as part of an initiative for its students to design and develop a satellite that will be sent into orbit through one of the launch vehicles of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) soon.
Students and space exploration:
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between SRM Public School and Space Kidz India at the school premises on Saturday, July 1. Speaking to reporters, Dr. K.R.Maalathi, Advisor, SRM Public School, said that the school was laying a lot of emphasis on inculcating scientific spirit and interest among children in science and with a lot of increased interest in space exploration in India now, they had decided to tie up with Space Kidz India.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Srimathy Kesan, Founder and CEO of Space Kidz India, said she was delighted and excited to tie up with SRM Public School for the first time, adding that 15 students of the school in classes 8 to 10 will be selected for this mission. After an initial training about the basics of satellite and space exploration, the selected students will be given hands-on training, apart from exposure to research work on the actual building of the satellite.
5 kg payload communications satellite:
The satellite, with a payload of 5 kilograms, would be fitted into one of the launch vehicles of ISRO and is expected to be sent into orbit anywhere between October this year and February 2024. The satellite would be deployed for communication purposes, and data collected from it would be processed for multiple purposes, benefiting sectors like agriculture and weather forecast, Dr. Kesan said. Recently, they had completed work on Azaadi Sat – involving 750 students from all over India on the occasion of India’s 75th year of Independence, she added.
Mr. M. Subramanian, Correspondent, SRM Public School, said the students building the satellite would be taken to Sathish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota on the launch day. The training for the selected students would be given free of cost. The school’s vision was to encourage students in research and development as it was most important for them to excel as they moved towards higher education.
Holistic education, all-round development:
Dr. Maalathi said SRM Public School did not restrict students to academics alone, and they firmly believed in holistic education and all-round development of children. They were exposing their students to all branches of education, which was why their institution was emerging as the finest school in the region. Ms. S.Bhuvaneswari, Principal, SRM Public School, was also present.
About SRM Public School:
Established in 2017 with 700 students, SRM Public School, from SRM Group of Institutions, the CBSE-affiliated institution has now grown to a strength of 2,872 students quickly. The school focuses on learning beyond textbooks, offering futuristic education through “STEAM” (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics ) education from grade 1.
With its focus on hands-on learning with real-world applications, SRM Public School helps develop various skill sets, creativity, and 21st-century skills, including hands-on activities in Research and Development in science, robotics, artificial intelligence, augmented reality and virtual reality. The STEAM Lab has a 3D printing machine too. Children who study STEAM core subjects in their higher education can help minimise workforce skill gaps and contribute to keeping the tech-savvy world moving forward.
